Prinz Friedrich August von Schleswig-Holstein in Indien

Ein Gentlemen und Amateurforscher

Amateur scholar, hunter, high nobleman – Prince Friedrich August of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg was an extraordinary person. Born into the political and military conflicts between Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein of the time since 1848, he eluded the discord in his homeland. In search of himself, his wanderlust led him from the tranquil Eckernförder Bay to the architectural highlights of ancient India.

This biography tells of the remarkable journey of a man who became a temple researcher and traveller to India instead of the prescribed career in the civil service. As a biographer and admirer of the Great Mogul Akbar, he found his life’s goal.
