Nathan Death

Commissioned work for the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim.

In the spirit of the Enlightenment, Lessing attempted to reconcile the great Abrahamic religions with his didactic play Nathan the Wise. Today, Nathan would be confronted with the growing influence of fundamentalist currents. Does tolerance still have a future? Can it ultimately only be enforced through repression? The authors deal with this question in “Nathan Death”.

Feridoun Zaimoglu, born in 1964 in Bolu, Anatolia, and raised in Germany, first studied art and medicine. Today he works as a writer, screenwriter, visual artist, curator and journalist.

Günter Senkel was born in Neumünster in 1958 and initially started a career as a political activist in the 1970s. He worked as a billposting worker, haulage truck driver and drinks bottle sorter before giving up his physics studies in favor of running his own bookshop in Kiel, where – like Feridun Zaimoglu – he has worked and lived as a freelance author since 1997.
