This years summer exhibition of the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Verein Fehmarn features the artist couple Joanna Skurska und Leszek Skurski. Their dialogue connects the black-and-white of Skurskis oil paintings with the colorful organic shapes of Skurskas wood tableaus. She also designs elaborate dresses from copper wire, presenting themselves als sculptures of the female body as well as making the absence of the body obvious. Both artist are discussing matters of being, absensce and lonelyness.

Joanna Skurska, born in 1972 in Danzig, studied Arts at the  Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. 1999 she received her degree.

 

Leszek Skurski, born 1973 in Danzig, studied Arts and Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts, Gdańsk. 1995 he received the Artprice of the Polish Ministry of Culture and Arts and finished his studies in 1999, as a master student of Prof. Włodzimierz Łajming.

 

The couple moved 1999 to Fulda, Germany, where they live and work. They established in 2006 with other artist the Red Corridor Gallery and have regular exhibitions there as well as in Europe, the US an South-Korea.
