The “Sachsenspiegel” (Survey of Saxon Law) is the most important law book of the Middle Ages and has therefore been subject to many analyses. Using electronic data processing, this study investigates 16.000 judgements, giving new insights into how the “Sachsenspiegel” influenced the decision-making process of judges until and including the 20th century.

Dr. ing. Christian Hetz LL.M., born in 1978, studied Law at the Universities of Salzburg and Vienna and got a degree as an industrial engineer from the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum Vienna. He got his PhD degree with this thesis in 2008 with Prof. Dr. Thomas Olechowski as supervisor.
