Die Hexe im Film.

Die Rezeption eines Stereotyps aus Antike, Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit in US-amerikanischen Kino- und Fernsehproduktionen.

[Witches in the Pictures. The Reception of a Stereotype from Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Early Modern Period in US Cinema and TV productions.]

The films analysed in this study (among them „Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs“, „Sleeping Beauty“, „Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves“, „Fatal Attraction“, „Practical Magic“, „Sleepy Hollow“, „Buffy the Vampire Slayer“, „Charmed“ and „Harry Potter“), show that the characters of the witch as a perpetrator as well as that of a heroine follow attributes, symbols, and functions drawn from the ancient world, the Middle Ages, and the Early Modern Period.
