St. Johannis zu Eppendorf.

Eine Hamburger Dorfkirche vom Mittelalter bis heute.

The story of one of Hamburgs oldest church is finally uncovered, spanning a time of over 751 years. The church serves as a focal point in view of the religious, social and political life of the parish in the present-day Hamburg. Transformations in political as well as social hemispheres leave their marks on the parish, its pastors and church members. Historical Events become concrete when viewed through the lense of their position. Readers receive insights into the consequences of epidemias, natural disasters, reformation, the position between Hamburg and Denmark and the steep population increase in the 19th century. The history of the church of Eppendorf reflexts thereby the history of northern Germany and especially Hamburg.

Veronika Janssen studied protestant theology at CAU Kiel and received her degree with a publication about the ‘Adlersche Kirchenagende’ from 1797 and its socio-cultural consequences and effects. The Chronicle about St. Johannis was a favor to the parish of Eppendorf on the occasion of the 750th birthday of the church itself.
