Das Festmahl der Semele

Ein philosophisches Lesedrama

Semele, daughter of the goddess Harmonia and mother of the god Dionysus, organises a feast to which she invites people from different eras. Plato, Ignatius of Loyola, Nietzsche, Schiller, Johanna Schopenhauer, Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki, Freud, Paula Fichtl and Marilyn Monroe are invited.

Philosophers usually deal with the existential thoughts of their time. Does God exist? What is it that we call the soul and why do we need others to be happy? Questions that have not only moved poets and artists for centuries. They will be re-examined at this extraordinary feast where time and space play no role. What is usually discussed abstractly in philosophy books is discussed here in a lively and controversial way over wine and bread.

Armin Schweizer, born in 1955 in West Berlin, moved to Switzerland to work for a wood sculptor after dropping out of a physics course. At a meditation center for applied Christian and Buddhist religion, he became acquainted with the philosophy of Zen and its leader, a Jesuit priest. After two years of novitiate in the Jesuit order, Schweizer decided against the priesthood and began studying philosophy at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and the Free University in Berlin. He wrote his master’s thesis on Nietzsche’s moral criticism. Today, the author lives with his family in South Baden and is a volunteer in his parish. He continues to practise Zen.
