Hermann Hirschfeld (1825-1885) – Badearzt und Publizist aus Pommern

Der Beitrag eines jüdischen Arztes zum Aufstieg Kolbergs zum bedeutendsten Seebad und Kurort an der Ostsee.

Dr. Hermann Hirschfeld, a Jewish physician and balneologist, has until now been unjustly overshadowed by his son, the famous sex therapist Magnus Hirschfeld. Hermann Hirschfeld’s medical field was bathing and brine cures, which he used to treat his patients, who travelled from far and wide, using a modern, holistic approach. He made a significant contribution to the transformation of the Prussian fortress town of Kolberg into a Norderney of the Baltic Sea. In gratitude for Hirschfeld’s work, the city of Kolberg erected a monument to him after his death, which was destroyed during the Nazi era. In addition to his biography, Hirschfeld’s description of bath and brine therapies is also reproduced here. A travel brochure for Kolberg from 1910 concludes the book
