This microhistorical study is a chronicle of Brokstedt, a parish in Holstein/Germany. It looks at the first settlements in this area in ancient times and in the Middle Ages and traces its 475 year-long history since it was first mentioned in an official document in 1538, analysing Brokstedts economical, political, social, religious and cultural development through the centuries.

 

A CD of 32 clips from interviews with contemporary witnesses is included with the book.

Oliver Auge studied History and Latin Philology at the University of Tübingen. He received his PhD in 2001. Since 2009 he is Professor in Kiel.
